How to Extract Files from DMC3 NBZ Archives — DMC Rengine
Learn how DMC Rengine approaches DMC3 NBZ extraction as a provenance-aware materialization problem. The canonical path indexes classic ZIP-backed numbered volumes, materializes supported compression methods, verifies observations and continues through nested containers instead of assuming the outer archive member is always the final game resource.
NBZ extraction that preserves context
- The current product path supports classic ZIP-backed NBZ indexing/materialization together with STORE and raw-DEFLATE members, recording CRC, size, SHA and ByteProvenance rather than exposing only anonymous extracted bytes.
- A materialized NBZ member may contain PAC or PNST, so recursive container expansion is part of reaching the useful leaf resource and not merely an optional post-processing trick.
- Sparse, empty and aliased container slots remain part of the resource identity because those relationships can matter when a later workflow needs to rebuild or explain the exact source path.
After the archive member is extracted
- Route the leaf payload according to its real format: models may lead to MOD or SCM inspection, textures may lead to DDS/PTX framing, and configuration or other binary families retain their own canonical readers and evidence status.
- Do not infer universal repacking support from a successful extraction; immutable-copy rebuild and bounded overlay authoring are narrower claims than complete edited-resource acceptance by the original runtime.
- The canonical proof program still separates product-side reopen/rematerialization from protected-process resolver selection and deterministic consumer-visible acceptance, so those stronger claims remain clearly gated.
Evidence boundary
A parser is not automatically a writer. A successful writer is not automatically equivalent to Capcom's offline tools. Synthetic validation does not establish original-game behavioral equivalence.
